The licence

Make something yours

In short: use the sounds in your music, as much as you like, with nothing to pay later. Just do not sell or share the sounds themselves.

Every 14 Sounds pack ships with this licence as a PDF. Below is its full text. The licence is granted by 14 Sounds to the person who buys the pack.

All sounds included in this pack are royalty-free for commercial and non-commercial use.

01 Use them freely

You may use these sounds in as many projects as you like. Edit, chop, pitch, stretch, layer, process and combine them however you want.

Release music independently or through a label. Sell, stream, perform and license your productions. Use the sounds in soundtracks, sync projects, films, games, videos, advertising, podcasts and other content, including client work.

No attribution, additional permission or royalty payments to 14 Sounds are required.

02 Don’t redistribute the pack

You may not share, give away, resell or repackage the samples, MIDI files or any included presets as standalone sounds, sample packs, preset banks or sound libraries.

This also applies to modified versions offered as standalone sound assets. You may not make the source files available for others to download, extract or reuse separately from your productions.

These restrictions do not prevent you from using a sound on its own within a musical passage or scene. They concern distributing sound assets, not your creative choices.

This licence is yours. It does not transfer to a label, a team or another producer, and you may not pass the files on.

03 Your work is yours

14 Sounds retains ownership of the original sounds and claims no ownership of your productions. Other customers may use the same sounds in their own work.

You may not register these sounds, or a track that is essentially one of them on its own, with Content ID or any music recognition system. Other customers bought the same sounds, and those claims would land on them.

Preset packs

Preset packs, such as Soft Synths Vol. 01, carry the same licence worded for presets. Section 01 reads “Tweak, resample, layer, process and automate them however you want.” Section 02 is titled “Don’t redistribute the presets” and reads:

  • You may not share, give away, resell or repackage the preset files, or modified versions of them, as standalone presets, preset banks or sound libraries.
  • The same applies to sample packs built mainly from recordings of these presets, such as one shots or multisamples of individual patches.

This does not stop you from rendering a preset to audio inside your music. It concerns distributing sound assets, not your creative choices. Section 04 adds: “Serum 2 is made by Xfer Records and sold separately: this pack contains presets only. To install, drag a preset onto Serum 2 or copy the folder into your Serum 2 User presets.”
